Professor Eduardo Manzano Moreno

Eduardo Manzano Moreno (MA, Area Studies, SOAS, University of London; Phd. Medieval History, Complutense University) is a British Academy Global Professor at the University of St. Andrews and a Research Professor at the Instituto de Historia, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Madrid.

His research has concentrated on the history of al-Andalus in the Umayyad period and the political implications of social history and memory. He has also made significant contributions on the history of Jerusalem during the First World War.

He has directed multidisciplinary international research projects mainly focused on the caliphal city of Madīnat al-Zahrāʼ. He is or has been member of editorial boards of scientific journals such as Hispania, al-Qantara, Arqueología y Territorio Medieval and Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies. From 2006 until 2012 he was Director of the Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales of the CSIC in Madrid.

He has been Research Visitor at St. John’s College in the University of Oxford and Tinker Professor at the Centre for Latin American Studies of the University of Chicago. He has also collaborated in general public magazines, newspapers and tv documentaries in Spain, the UK and Germany.
